About Me:

I am a life-long Iowan and have been interested in politics as long as I can remember.  I remember taking my government class at Muscatine High School and I was really struck by the limitations of power in the Executive Branch.  Given those limitations, I have always found it frustrating that the people in the United States focus so heavily on the President instead of the Legislative Branch.  Constitutionally, Congress has the power to write laws and fund the government and while the President has Veto power, the President does not have the authority to write laws.

I believe in a number of critically important facts in our country:

  • We must talk to one another and remain civil to advance unity throughout our country.
  • The people of the United States tend to be much closer to one another on what matters than it feels like.
  • The separation of powers provides important checks and balances across the United States government.
  • We must follow the laws laid out in the Constitution and allow each branch of government to function independently and without fear.

I studied Political Science and Economics as an undergraduate at Iowa State University and Economics as a graduate student at Iowa State.
